About Us

Hinckley, in south-west Leicestershire, is in an area surrounded by a wealth of major archaeological and historical features from Bronze Age barrows to the crossing of two major Roman roads, Watling Street and the Fosse Way.

Field walking is one of the key techniques that the Hinckley Field Walking Group use to locate sites of local archaeological and historical interest.

Our activities and projects

Members also participate in the following activities :

metal detecting
landscape and village surveys
small scale archaeological digs
educational excursions
displays, talks & exhibitions
helping to teach pupils about archaeology at local schools

Hinckley Field Walking Group are involved in other projects with :

Birmingham University
University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS)
Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project (SHARP)

New members are always welcome.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7.30pm.

Annual membership is £15 due on 1st Jan 2009.
